
Cadet Timothy Cole Vowell, son of Hollie Holt and Tim Vowell of Martin, was recently awarded the Academic Fourragere for superior scholastic achievement at Missouri Military Academy's Middle School. He also was awarded the Academic Effort Bar for the month of January for fulfilling the 10 requirements set forth to develop excellence in the classroom.Cadet Vowell is a member of the Academy's 119th Corps of Cadets, which includes students from 28 states and 17 nations. Located in Mexico, Mo., MMA enrolls young men in grades 6-12 and post-graduate studies, and includes a separate middle school that focuses on reading improvement and development of life skills.Of the 60 institutions on the U.S. Department of Education's roster of Exemplary Private Schools, MMA is one of only two military academies so honored. For 2006-07, it was designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction for the 36th time by the U.S. Department of the Army.
